About the campaign
Raise awareness. Fund sight-saving research.
Every October, in honor of Blindness Awareness Month, Finding the Light raises awareness of vision loss and funds for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The Foundation drives the research, clinical trials, and genetic testing that bring people with blinding retinal diseases closer to treatments and cures.
Teams and families across the country take part by fundraising for people they love. A donation is the most important way to help, and you can give from anywhere.
Where it started
Kym's story
Kym DeKeyrel's journey with vision loss began at age 5, when she was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. As her vision faded, she felt lost in the darkness — until the day her husband brought her to a CrossFit gym, where she was celebrated for what she could do rather than defined by what she could not.
When Kym started competing in 2019, there was no Vision Division — and little understanding of what it's like to compete with a visual impairment. Through the persistence and advocacy of Kym and her fellow athletes, there is now a Vision Division with the accommodations athletes deserve. Finding the Light grew out of her story.
