Finding the Light

Bringing light to people living with vision loss.

Their stories

Why we're Finding the Light

Finding the Light grew out of Kym's story, and every October more athletes living with vision loss share theirs.

Where it started

Kym DeKeyrel

Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at age 5, Kym found her way out of the darkness at a CrossFit gym, where she was celebrated for what she could do. She pushed for the Vision Division that now gives athletes like her the accommodations they deserve, and she programmed the Finding the Light workout.

Spreading the message

Jaclyn “Jake”

When Jake was diagnosed at age 4 with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, a rare condition that causes progressive blindness, her family’s world shifted. Her mom, Emily, went searching for hope and found it in Kym’s story. Now two families, connected through CrossFit, share what it means to believe in yourself, adapt, and choose to live in the light, even when darkness feels overwhelming.

A blind man’s vision

Aaron Vnuk

Aaron is blind, and he owns Blind Faith CrossFit in North Haven, Connecticut. A former school counselor, he and his wife took over the gym to build a community grounded in inclusion, resilience, and grit, where people of every ability and starting point come together to learn how to do hard things.
